Need for the capacity building activities. Please describe the skill and/or knowledge deficit the collaboration is addressing, within an institutional context as well as national/regional context by setting out which new skills and knowledge the groups involved will gain and how these will contribute to achieving/enhancing the overall goals of the institutions involved.
The delivery of novel technologies brings with it a culture of capacity building. Comparing the scale of the challenge facing water resource management in Oman with the more specialist applications in the UK, the great majority of process customisation according to operational requirements are anticipated to take place at the Oman site. Accordingly, the complement of research personnel with a direct involvement in further development, optimisation, and specialisation of the water quality monitoring and treatment systems is likely to increase, fostering an accompanying growth in research capacity, innovation potential, and knowledge sharing through the collaborative partnership. The appropriate end users will be consulted at all stages of the project including the planning and strategizing for impact. This project aims to help local communities, local water bodies, industries, and farmers from the rural parts of Al- Batinah region providing a high-end tool to identify the multiple pollutants of concern. This research contributes towards environmental sustainability, protection and impact reduction. In addition, the project will contribute to increase public awareness of science, economic and societal issues related water quality. The most environmentally sustainable, solution for manufacturing of remediation elements and control systems is likely to be one based in the Al- Batinah region.
